Results of the second edition of the by the Quacquarelli Symonds agency are published today, Wednesday 10 July. The ranking considers exclusively universities in European Union countries, which are more comparable in geographical proximity and cultural matrix. The methodology used for this evaluation partly differs from that of the more general QS World University Ranking (WUR). Some bibliometric indicators have changed, for example, two indicators relating to the exchange flows of international students, both inbound and outbound, are introduced. The weights of some indicators also change, such as the student/teacher ratio (from 10% in the WUR to 5%) and the ability to network internationally in research (from 5% in the WUR to 10%).
The University of Padua recorded a significant improvement in the entry flow of students from international exchange programs, leading Padua to occupy the 71st position at the European level (up 20 positions compared to the last edition). At a national level, Padua occupies second place in "Sustainability" (an indicator that focuses on the social and environmental impact generated by universities within the scope of the United Nations' sustainable development objectives), placing itself in 50th place at a European level. The solidity and quality of the international research network developed by the University of Padua with other universities is also confirmed by the "International Research Network" indicator (measures and evaluates studies published with foreign co-authors and co-authors), based on which Padua ranks 52nd at European level and third in Italy.
