SMACT Competence center

The University of Padua and other public research institutions have established a public-private partnership to apply to the Ministry of Economic Development (MISE) for the creation of a highly specialized Competence Center (CC) in Industry 4.0 technologies.
The Competence Center, named SMACT, is focused on the following specializations:

  • Social Networks
  • Mobile Platforms & Apps
  • Advanced Analytics and Big Data
  • Cloud
  • Internet of Things

SMACT has received funding of 7 million Euros from the Ministry of Economic Development to primarily operate in three areas:

  • Business orientation, particularly for SMEs, by providing a series of tools to help them assess their level of digital and technological maturity;
  • Business training, to promote and disseminate skills in Industry 4.0 through classroom training, on the production line, and on real applications;
  • Innovation projects, industrial research, and experimental development proposed by companies, and the provision of technology transfer services in Industry 4.0, also through actions to stimulate innovation demand from companies, especially SMEs.

In December 2018, SMACT Scpa was established, a company with 40 public and private entities created to manage the Triveneto Competence Center dedicated to collaborations between research and business in Industry 4.0.
The founding members of SMACT are eight universities in the Triveneto region (Padua, Verona, Ca' Foscari, IUAV, Trento, Bolzano, Udine, and SISSA of Trieste), two research institutions (the National Institute of Nuclear Physics and the Bruno Kessler Foundation), the Chamber of Commerce of Padua, and 29 private companies:
