Accident Coverage by INAIL
The University ensures insurance coverage against workplace accidents through INAIL, with the insurance coverage system on behalf of the State, pursuant to D.P.R. June 30, 1965, No. 1124 and subsequent amendments and additions, for students and graduated interns, employees, faculty, researchers, and technical and administrative staff. The procedure for reporting an INAIL accident is mandatory even for minor injuries. In case of an accident, it is important to:
- Inform the person responsible for the teaching, research, internship activity, or their delegate, reporting the circumstances in which the accident occurred
- Avoid self-diagnosis and go to an emergency room, declaring that it is a workplace accident in order to receive appropriate medical certification. All healthcare services provided by hospital companies for "workplace" accidents are exempt from co-payment
- Promptly report the accident to the Economic Treatments Office, using the forms available on this page. Both the accident report and the subsequent medical certificates must be immediately sent to the office via email at:Â trattamenti.economici@unipd.it.
Workplace, Commuting, and Mission Accidents
A workplace accident is any incident that occurs due to a "violent cause on the occasion of work" resulting in death, permanent disability, or temporary total disability. This coverage is valid for activities carried out by individuals at university premises and similar locations or during technical-scientific experiences that are part of complementary and integrative initiatives of the educational path offered by the University. Employees (faculty and technical-administrative staff), students, and all individuals who undertake an authorized mission by the University are insured against accidents.
If the accident occurs during the commute between the location of educational or research activities and home, and vice versa, or on the occasion of another previously authorized trip (including missions abroad), it is considered a commuting accident.
In Case of non-recovery during the assigned absence period
If, at the end of the absence period from work assigned by the emergency room doctor, the injured person wishes to request an extension because they have not yet recovered, they may choose to go to: the INAIL clinics at the competent location, their general practitioner, a specialist, or the emergency room. The injured person is required to promptly provide the employer/responsible contact with the medical certificates that attest to the possible continuation of the injury.
Injury Protection in Confirmed Cases of Covid-19 Infection on the Job
The University of Padua, for cases of coronavirus infection, adheres to the provisions of D.L. March 17, 2020, No. 18, Article 42, paragraph 2, converted by L. April 24, 2020, No. 27, known as the "Cura Italia" Decree, as well as INAIL Circular No. 13 of April 3, 2020.
Employees and students who have contracted the SARS-CoV-2 infection on the job, according to the established legal principle that equates a viral cause with the violent cause typical of an injury, must send a specific medical certificate attesting to the positive test result to the Economic Treatments Office.
Once the University receives the documentation, it forwards the injury report to the competent INAIL office. The assessment of the injury is the exclusive responsibility of INAIL.
Insurance Coverage Certification
The Economic Treatments Office (Ufficio trattamenti economici), responsible for managing the INAIL process, can issue a personalized insurance coverage certification upon written request sent via email.
Prognosis Exceeding 60 Consecutive Days
Following an absence due to health reasons lasting more than sixty consecutive days, in order to verify fitness for duty, the employee must undergo a medical examination at the university's Preventive Medicine Service before returning to the workplace.
