Lapo Boschi graduated in physics from the University of Bologna, with a thesis on the earth's post-seismic viscoelastic rebound. He moved on to study seismic tomography, and the earth's structure and dynamics, receiving a Ph.D. from Harvard University in 2001.
In 2001 he came back to Italy with a postdoctoral fellowship at the university of Naples, before being hired as senior researcher at ETH Zurich. At ETH, between 2003-2012, he has been PI and co-I of a number of grants on seismic imaging of earth structure, as well as being involved as lead scientist in two EU training networks: SPICE and QUEST. At this point, he shifted his research interests to the theory of seismic ambient-noise correlation.
In 2012 he became associate professor at Sorbonne University in Paris. There, he coordinated the EU training network WAVES, an interdisciplinary project bringing together acousticians and seismologists at the cutting edge of wave-based imaging techniques.
He is associate professor at the University of Padua since 2018, and is currently involved in the training network SEASOUNDS, planned to take off in 2024. Currently, his research contributions are decidedly multidisciplinary, ranging from tectonics and seismic tomography to sonification and bioacoustics. Over the course of his career, he has supervised 14 PhD students, many of whom now occupy academic research positions at highly ranked institutions. He has an extensive teaching portfolio covering a general geophysics curriculum.
